10 tricks I would steal from pros (if I could)

Image
Note: Scanner took a dump so I couldn't get all the images I wanted on here. I'll be back with some more new/old stuff soon.. In no particular order...  1. Andrew Reynolds' frontside flip. Alright, let's get the obvious out of the way. Dude owns this trick and can do it down, up, over anything. Almost looks too easy for him. Close runner up would be Mike Carroll and of course Tom Penny, both legends who have shown total mastery of the trick for years with unique style and minimal effort. 2. Dylan Rieder's impossible. I couldn't think of a better description for Dylan's use of the trick than the name itself. Going over the barrier at Street League then that bench in NYC was already a mind-fuck. Than dude takes it over the chain link fence to massive drop with a tail grab to boot and it's a done deal. It would be a sin if I didn't mention Ed Templeton as well.  My historical facts are murky but he was clearly one of the pioneers of bringing...

Evolution of the Skate Shoe # 5... D.C.

What's the hold up?? a. My laptop had over 90 malware/adware entries on it. b. I've been too busy skating and having fun. c. I've been mourning the death of The Chrome Ball Incident d. Too lazy. e. Moved magazines to the garage and therefore had to get a new scanner. f. All of the above. g. None of the above. You decide (bonus points if you get this reference). After giving it some thought I'm going to pull the plug on these Evolution of the Skate Shoe series posts. It's a great idea, I just don't think that I have enough  magazines/ads to do it justice. So, instead of doing the 10 posts I had originally planned on, I'm going to combine everything into a few more remaining posts and then continue on with the other ideas I've been sitting on for a while. So, here is Evolution of the Skate Shoe post #5 focusing on D.C. shoes, with 2 more to go.. Colin McKay....hope we see a part in the new Plan B video.  Danny ...

Pier 7 revisited..

While perusing the FTC site recently, I came across some great Pier 7 videos added by Brad Johnson on Vimeo.  Although there seems to be a Tsunami of great stuff going down in skateboarding right now, these videos are too good not to mention. Lots of legends in here...Lavar McBride, John Igei, Enrique Lorenzo, Josh Kalis, Drake Jones, Brandon Biebel, among many less well known but equally talented dudes. Check it out.. (may have a short load time, give it a second). RIP..

A trick that lives up to it's name... been in awe of it since back in the day. Cool to see it coming back around.  Here a couple recent ones and a couple old favorites for comparison (no list); Jordan Hoffart, the Bones Video First trick, out of a Smith grind. Not expected at all. Then I was surprised to see Josh Kalis throw one out over at the Berrics. About 1:25 in (no html code, what the hell? Going back a ways..I came across this beauty that I had forgotten about by Ocean Howell (at about 25:53). Bonus one by Damian Carbajal at about 5:15. Pat Brennan had a mean one. Check the fourth frame in this old Powell Peralta ad; Damn this guy was good... watched this part for the first time in several years and it was almost like watching it for the first time. R.I.P. By the way, if you're in or around the Sacramento area this weekend, you should come by and check out Manny Mania ..should be some good shit.
