Guy or Die...

Image
All of the Election controversy reminded me of another recent upset. The highly contested passing over of Guy Mariano for David Gonzalez as S.O.T.Y. I saw this recently which was a reminder of how much great footage Guy put out in recent years. Have there been any new developments in the board company him and Eric have been working on? I haven't heard anything.. also, vert is dead has some great retro girl/chocolate stuff going on right now. Check it out .

Skate Shoe #7.. Leftovers.

Image
Done with shoes.. but here are a few leftovers that I either forgot to add in other posts or warrant a second gander.. also a few random odds and ends I came across.  Sal Barbier nosebluntslide transfer.  Found an old photo of me recently wearing my favorite skate shoes of all time..Axion Guy Mariano's. I had three pairs of these damn things in a row and wore them until they fell apart. I thought it was cool to see Axion doing a newer version (" The Nino "), but it doesn't quite capture how rad these shoes were.  ..and sadly, I threw these out a few years back but kept the box for some reason. To be honest I didn't care for the shoes that much they were too narrow but dude ripped so I was hoping some of his good mojo would rub off on me. Nope.  This one really should have been on the Jenkem Mag's most  terrifying  skate shoe list.. the infamous Zero Two..  Oh, and these velco Airwalks were pretty...

O.G. Blind Squad..

First time I'd ever heard of the term "stigmata". You can learn a lot from skateboarding..  Blind-era Jason Lee kickflip with a TG cameo.. Gotta' love the 90's.. no name of the skater, company or what the trick is. Seems like skateboarding has been just trying to catch up to Guy forever.. handrail nosegrind in..'91?  I have no idea if this is a Blind ad or not but it was too funny to leave out.. Classic Rudy Johnson..Love the Marc Johnson tribute board too..    Random Jordan Richter shot..check out those bolts!!

This post started off with an idea to put up the 101 ad with Gabriel...then realized that it's hard to mention him without also mentioning Guy, Rudy, and Paulo. Love these videos by Jacob43, aka Jake Rosenberg. Especially considering that they were filmed in my old stomping grounds in Santa Barbara. Frankie Hill cameo.. This one's a little old but nevertheless an amazing display of raw talent by Rudy Johnson.. ..more Wrench Pilot 'toons coming next. Promise!

Satan Backwards..

If you have some time to kill or are just a major procrastinator like me, this guy is always great to catch up on.. Have to say that I never realized how much raw talent this guy possessed until watching these... lots of never been dones. More older stuff here Oh yeah, and happy birthday to Guy Mariano. 36, wow.

Top Ten Skate Video Songs..

Image
I've been thinking about this for a long time. A good song in a skate video can make all the difference in the world. Here are (in no particular order) my top ten... 1. Guy Mariano, Mouse. I really don't even need to say why... Those first few notes of the song were so eerie that it just draws you right in. The song seems to get more complicated as the skating gets gnarlier. Classic. 2. Ronnie Creager, Trilogy. One of my all time favorites. Clean song that just seemed to match his skating perfectly. The Jimmy Cliff 2nd song was a surprise that was a little bit more upbeat and worked as well. 3. Pat Duffy, Questionable. Another song that kind of builds with the intensity of the skating and ends with the blood-curling scream from Les Claypool as Pat changes street skating forever.. 4. Danny Way, Virtual Reality. If memory serves me correctly this was right before his surfing accident which took him out of the game for a while. 5. Jamie Thomas, Welcom...

WTF??

Crailtap's been posting clips of the Girl team in Sac the last few days. Sort of eerie that I live in this town and could have crossed paths. I think I was going to go to this spot the day before they aired the first one. I have no idea where the spot is for the second clip, but the third  one is this crusty old bank that is kind of fun to goof around on. Would be perfect but there are chunks in the ground before the run up and I have done exactly what Omar Salazar does as he's riding up before.  The latest one  (clip five) is at this spot where we take a box and skate sometimes because it's covered, (it rains quite a bit in Sac over the winter), and I was really surprised to see it on here. That ledge they are skating used to have a piece of that fiberglass stuff they have at skateparks so it didn't grind that well. I'm going to have to go back there and take a look if someone put a metal edge on it....  Anyway, just interesting to see that such good ska...
